Harvey Danger
I wanted to post about a new band I've come across in my net travels, Harvey Danger.
They're offering their first studio album in five years as a Bit Torrent download. Free. No craptacular DRM. Free. (You can read their reasons for doing it here.)
It's a really good album. I find myself more and more moving away from mainstream models of content distribution. Here's a band who said "We're trying to gain new fans. Every person who downloads this record for free and likes it will eventually become a fan and want to support us directly."
Sure it's a risk, but when you compare it to the alternative (signing away your rights and soul to some mega-corporation) I suspect that it's a risk worth taking.
